Fantasy on Flite based on Charles Dickens' Bleak House
Fantasy on Flite came about as I had decided to make a standard doll maker's figure, a cage doll.
Usually my inspiration comes before I begin a piece but this time, I simply had a form in mind. I went through several ideas but nothing seemed "right" to fit in the cage, neither bird, nor eggs.
I mentioned to my cousin Marcille that I just couldn't reach the character for this piece and I couldn't fit anything in the cage. Her reply was perhaps this was because she was Miss Flite from Bleak House and she had released her birds.
I had just recently read the Dickens' book and her remark immediately gave me the visualization I needed to create this piece. There are no birds in the cage, rather in the cage, and about her figure are the feathers of her birds. The remaining bird she is preparing to release is "Hope."
